Emend AI is an AI safety and research company focused on building autonomous developer tools that respect user agency. Our flagship product, UTIM AI, is an open CLI coding agent that runs locally on every developer's machine.
We believe the next generation of software will be built by humans working alongside high-agency AI agents. To make that safe and productive, the agent must live in the developer's terminal, obey their rules, and never lock them in. UTIM is open-source, runs locally, and ships with first-class undo.
UTIM started as an internal tool to scratch our own itch: an LLM agent that could actually finish multi-step coding tasks without hand-holding, while staying inside a verifiable sandbox. After six months of internal dogfooding we open-sourced it and added the Creators Marketplace so the community could publish their own skills and miniagents.
UTIM's core is MIT-licensed and developed on GitHub at github.com/emend-ai/utim. The Pro and Team tiers fund continued development, but every feature in the free tier will always stay free.
